Freaky Fashion Friday

I think these vintage halloween masks and costumes from the 1960's-1980's are pretty appropriate for Freaky Fashion Friday cuz some of them are just downright freaky! Where did these people come up with these ideas?!? I have to admit I love the designs on some of the older ones:

Check out the pirate in the corner! I also love the Senorita.

This is suppose to be a hippie.
See what acid does to you kids. Makes you paint your face and get freakish piercings!

This mask looks a little modern to me, so I am not quite sure if it's vintage but I love the design.
Cat people are awesome.

Jolly Roger

El Diablo

Classic Skull

A little bizarre, but cool.

The scaredy cat on the head of this witch is a great touch.
So are the bat earrings.
I have no idea what is going on with this mask.
My first reaction was wtf?
I also found the plastic Rainbow Brite costume I wore when I was 4 years old on ebay. I love how the eye holes are in the hair!!

If you want your own vintage mask I recommend browsing Etsy and Ebay. You are sure to find a deal at either site!!

Thrilling Thursday Trims

I think it's appropriate to start off our Thrilling Thursday Trims with some great Halloween invitation ideas. I'll be starting today off with premade invitation cards and then will follow up with some great handmade cards. Premade invitations are a perfect solution for those who are short on time or last minute. I highly recommend browsing Etsy for invitations that are guaranteed to be unique and creepy. Plus you'll be supporting local businesses. Here are a few that caught my eye courtesy of Papercrave(an amazing blog!) and Etsy:

First we have some insanely cute cards from Tiny Prints.

How great is this chic spooky house template by Nouveaudesigns. Reminds me of the movie Rebecca.

I love this drunk Frankenstein by Little Toad. Very appropriate for a deadly debauchery.

I try to buy letterpress cards whenever I can, so I was delighted to come by these creepy invitations by Hello Lucky

Cardstore also has an amazing selection of Halloween invitations to choose from as well. So many amazing designs!!

This invite from Impress in Prints is so cute and perfect for a Hallowedding.

A Witch Hunting We Go!

Click HERE for some traditional German tales of how to spot cunning witches that may be hiding under the guise of your friend or family member.

Wicked Words Wednesday: The Classics

I think reading Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz when I was a kid might have had something to do with my morbid nature. That and watching The Shining when I was eleven. This series (there are three total) is a classic that people tend to forget about. Yes, it may be for a more younger crowd but who doesn't love reading these haunting legends about the lady with the mysterious black ribbon around her neck over and over again. Each book contains a variety of tall tales accompanied by the most disturbing illustrations ever. I'm pretty sure the illustrations by Stephen Gammell freaked me out more than the stories themselves (specifically the dead bride in the trunk!)

Wicked Words about Wicked Witches

My favorite witch of all time is Baba Yaga, an old witch-woman from traditional Russian folklore. She is wonderfully horrible, flying around on not the usual broomstick, but perched in a giant mortar. Her house walks about on giant chicken feet, so that no one knows where she is. Check out all her amazing attributes HERE

Cake Possession

This is perhaps the greatest cake ever made for a Halloween party, and may even be the greatest scary cake ever made. Period. Awhile back, the Food Network show Ace of Cakes was commissioned to make a custom cake of Regan from The Exorcist for an extreme Halloween lover's party. Watch the video of the creation of this one-of-a-kind cake below. It actually moves!

Terrible Treats!

No frightening Halloween feast would be complete without cocktail ideas. HERE are some of my favorite and amazingly tasty drinks made with Blavod Black Vodka.
